I find it very exciting that athletes enjoy the sport enough to work hard at making a team. Here is a story about the Florida State University athletes and how they started a club, even without a coach. You can read about the US collegiate program on the US Synchronized Swimming website. 22 February 2005As you may know, New York City is bidding to host the 2012 Olympic Games. This week, the International Olympic Committtee's Evaluation Commission is visiting New York City as a final review of their bid plan. Many events are happening in NYC to celebrate the visit and show off the city's bid. This will be the last visit by the IOC to New York City. The decision will be made in July of this year as to which city will get to host the 2012 Games. 15 February 2005Montreal will host the FINA World Championships after all! The Aquatic Championships were taken away from the city recently, and have been given back due to financial guarantees provided by the mayor. This news comes after the CEO of the organizing committee apparently committed suicide. 3 February 2005I found an interesting article by Steve Starr on Esther Williams. As many know, she is known for her movies and "mermaid" moves in the 1940s and 50s. She is also known for increasing the popularity of synchronized swimming. Did you also know she was a swim champion in her day? She intended on competing in the Olympics, but they were cancelled due to World War II. 2 February 2005London, Paris, Madrid, Moscow, and New York City are all contenders for hosting the 2012 Olympic Games. Each of these cities has submitted very detailed and elaborate plans to the International Olympic Committee for consideration. The decision by the IOC will be made in July. London has just announced the winner of their design competition of their planned Olympic Aquatic Centre. You can find find out about each city's bid by going to their individual websites, or try GamesBids.com for information about many bid and host cities. synchronized swimming insights from an olympic gold medalist |
